AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP)—The Detroit Pistons say Flip Saunders won’t be back next season after leading the team to three straight appearances in the Eastern Conference finals.

President of basketball operations Joe Dumars said Tuesday a change is necessary despite Saunders’ successes.

In his three seasons, the Pistons were 176-70 in the regular season and 30-21 in the postseason, but they lost in the conference finals each year.

Saunders had a year left on a four-year deal he signed in 2005. He replaced Larry Brown, who won a title in two trips to the NBA finals.

I dont like this move by the Pistons organization..They play late in the playoffs every year but most of the time thay are just beaten. Not because of the coach but because the other teams have caught up to thier level of talent.Detroit has to accept the fact that there is no longer a "Beast of the East".

Yeah, I don't like this move either. He was doing fine there. They also need to accept the fact that their players are getting older too, Rasheed Wallace is what? 36 or something? And I know Billups and Hamilton are getting up there too.

It wasnt about wins/losses per say , he took over a team that just came off of back to back NBA Finals appearances, and after 3 years could not get them back. From Dumars's perspective that's underachieving, not getting it done so he made the change.

Don't neccessarily think it was a good decision myself but can see why Dumars fired him

YEah i can see why but at the same point, you cant put the entire blame solely on Saunders for teams finally catching up to them.Even if i wasnt a Celtics fan i would say that the Celtics are a much better team that the Pixtons this year.Last year was the Lebron James show and te year before that Miami was a better team than them..The announcers and experts were saying its almost like the Pistons "turn it on and turn it off".In a way you can blame the coach but the coach is not on the floor making the jump shots and defending players.Only so much you can do from the sidelines once the game starts.

Wonder who's going to be his successor.

Avery Johnson, Jeff van Gundy, Bill Laimbeer etc are all touted as candidates.

I more interested in where Flip Saunders will end up...Has the Suns job been offered to anyone yet?
