Tommy Lasorda will lead the crowd in the classic baseball tune, “Take Me Out to the Ball Game,” during the seventh-inning stretch of today’s game at Wrigley Field.
Did you know?
*Lasorda belted the eminent song at Wrigley Field five times previously. (1999, 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2006). He’s not a rookie when it comes to singing this song.
*2008 marks the 100th anniversary of the song. There is a comprehensive book out now about the song called Baseball’s Greatest Hit: The Story of ‘Take Me Out to the Ball Game’.
*The song was composed by Jack Norworth and Albert Von Tilzer in 1908. Interestingly, both musicians never attended a Major League Baseball game.
*The song has sold over 10 Million copies in sheet music/recordings.
*The original lyrics are now archived in the National Baseball Hall of Fame Library in Cooperstown, New York.
I’ve never heard Tommy Lasorda sing before. But for all I know, he may be an excellent candidate for American Idol.
